Tutkielmassani olennaista on kansalaisjärjestöjen ja tarkemmin Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliitto ry:n (MLL) sekä Pelastakaa Lapset ry:n yhteiskunnallisen aseman tarkastelu järjestöjen omasta näkökulmasta. Tarkastelu painottuu julkisen ja kolmannen sektorin väliseen suhteeseen. Hahmotan kansalaisjärjestöjen asemaa suhteessa valtiovaltaan tutkimalla kansalaisjärjestöjen kommentointia valtiovallan toimiin ja esityksiin sekä järjestöjen omia kokemuksia niiden oikeudesta toimia valtiovallan rinnalla. In nineteenth‑century Finland, artisans constituted an important part of society, and the majority of them lived in the countryside. Rural artisans were jacks-of-all-trades who met the needs of country folk. This chapter studies the rural artisans’ children and explores how craft knowledge was often transferred to the next generation. In early modern society, it was only natural that the son followed his father’s trade. This was a matter of societal stability and maintaining the social order. Throughout the history of Western popular culture, new emerging forms of media have been perceived as threats to social norms, societal order and moral foundations. The present compilation dissertation situates the medium of digital games into this centuries-old continuum. This study contents that controversies and moral panics that originate from the aforementioned concerns should be perceived as cultural rites of passage for new media, which indicate their transition from one state into another, from periphery into mainstream. Crossing the magical barriers of art : Social class, authorship and capital in the contemporary Finnish literary field

This article examines how social class origin is experienced to affect the trajectories of becoming and being an author in the context of the contemporary Finnish literary field. It analyzes authors’ experiences of social class, artistic work and authorship in a theoretical framework that draws from the work of Pierre Bourdieu and Beverley Skeggs, particularly the concepts of economic and cultural capital, habitus and inscription. Social class origin is argued to be a relevant factor that affects the ways authorship is pursued even in a country, such as Finland, where artistic labor is relatively well supported by the public sector.
